The Paraclete Foundation is a Taoist educational foundation exploring coherence, ecology, health, ethics, and human flourishing through the lens of the Tao. We begin from the view that life flourishes when relationship remains intact: between people and nature, body and spirit, knowledge and wisdom, community and place.
Our work seeks to restore these relationships through education, scholarship, spiritual practice, health literacy, ecological awareness, and the cultivation of coherent human lives within the modern world.

Our Origins

Before the Paraclete Foundation ever took institutional form, it existed as a quiet intention: to remember what it means to live in right relationship, rooted in a simple commitment to presence. What began in a few lives gradually took root in a growing community — born in the space between people who dared to take the spiritual life seriously, whether in times of crisis or the quiet rhythm of ordinary days.

The Foundation emerged from many years spent at the intersection of health, human experience, spirituality, and the living systems that sustain us. Over time, a deeper pattern became visible: beneath the surface of stress, fatigue, and uncertainty lay struggles that could not be fully explained by medicine, psychology, economics or technology alone. Many carried a quiet sense of fragmentation — a separation from their bodies, from nature, from meaning, from community, and often from themselves — accompanied by an erosion of natural rhythm and a widening distance from the spiritual dimensions of life.

The wider world mirrored this same condition. Alongside remarkable scientific and technological progress unfolded ecological strain and chronic illness. So to, loneliness, overstimulation and spiritual absence. Never more connected, many people have felt increasingly disconnected from life itself.

These challenges are not new. They are ancient, woven into the human story. Yet in our age they have been intensified by a pervasive architecture of distraction and centralised power over health. This fragments attention, severs inner knowing, and reduces vitality to isolated symptoms and measurable metrics.

The Paraclete Foundation was born from the conviction that these experiences are not merely isolated problems, but signs of relationship longing to be restored. Taoist philosophy offered — and still offers — a profound language for this restoration. It speaks of harmony rather than domination, participation rather than control, simplicity rather than excess, and health as inseparable from rhythm, place, relationship, and the wider living world.

Rooted in this ancient wisdom and informed by contemporary inquiry, the Foundation seeks to restore coherence across health, ecology, ethics, and education. It exists to support the cultivation of lives that are more connected, more embodied, and more deeply aligned with the greater living order. Its work reaches far beyond health alone, exploring the relationships between people and place, along with spirituality and modern life, knowledge and wisdom, and individual wellbeing and collective responsibility.

Through education, scholarship, spiritual practice, community initiatives, and public teaching, the Foundation nurtures the restoration of relationship wherever fragmentation has taken hold.

At its heart lies a simple conviction: human beings flourish when life remains connected to itself. From this truth arises one essential question: how might humanity learn to live well again?

A MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDER

In the years leading up to, and since the start of the pandemic in early 2020, we have been shackled with prodigious and unrivalled health, economic, social and spiritual obstacles. We have had to exhaustively reshape our circumstances and lives and to contemplate our fragility and the tenuousness of the planet we live on. The only planet we live on.In light of the pandemic, we must look deeply and employ the wisdom and lessons learnt to spotlight another great issue of our time; one that is profoundly connected to the crisis we are suffering: spiritual absence.In quantum and Taoist terms, spirit is life. Anything that depletes spirit depletes our life, our health and our existence. The Paraclete Foundation is providing opportunity and a path forward for people and institutions to partake in a shared ministry to safeguard our spirit, the spirit endemic in nature, our health and our survival.The viral pandemic stole upon us whilst we were unprepared, on many levels. If there is a positive, it is that it (re)emphasised the need to follow a spiritual path that elucidates truth, peace, health and balance. A path that unravels burdens for what they are and a path that allows for the interconnectedness of all: human within human; human to human; human to planet and planet to human. Once this is experienced on a universal level, great healing takes place, and we can never be the same again.

The Foundation vigorously advocates wellbeing, connection and the pursuit of freedom and universal connection. We invite people from all backgrounds and philosophies who desire a greater view of life and sense of place in the world to relate with humanity and awaken spirituality.
